Join us on June 22nd from 12-1pm for an online Q&A session to learn more about The Imagination Museum’s co-commission with Ipswich Museum and DanceEast.
Supported with funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England, DanceEast and Ipswich Museum, The Imagination Museum dance and heritage network is pleased to announce a £6,000 co-commission for a dance artist/s based in the East of England to create an original work in response to the collections of Ipswich Museum, and particularly the museum’s new Journeys Gallery.
Building on a longstanding relationship between Ipswich Museum and DanceEast, this Imagination Museum co-commission offers artists the opportunity to create a new dance work that actively connects with the theme of ‘journeys’, taking inspiration from local and global stories at the heart of Ipswich Museum’s permanent collection, as well as people’s more personal connection with journeys into and out of Ipswich.
The selected artist will work collaboratively with a range of local community groups, who will perform in the finished work. Final performances are expected to take place in May 2027, shortly after the museum’s official reopening, on-site at Ipswich Museum.

This Zoom session will include:
- an introduction to the Imagination Museum network
- insights into Ipswich Museum redevelopment with Anna Mercer (Senior Collections and Learning Curator at Ipswich Museum)
- and context about ideas for the community groups to be involved in the project with Sophie O’Connor (Producer for Creative Health and Communities, DanceEast)
There will be time to find out more about the application process and ask questions, and the option of staying on the call for a further 30 minutes from 1-1.30pm if you would like to and have additional questions you might like to ask.
The meeting will also be recorded, with permission from participants, and shared on The Imagination Museum website.
