5th October 2019
As part of ‘Norwich Castle: Royal Palace Reborn’, their major National Lottery Heritage Fund redevelopment project, Norwich Castle are proud to introduce ‘Fight or Flight’: an ambitious creative dance initiative interpreting the ‘fight or flight’ response. This ground-breaking performance took place in Norwich Castle’s magnificent medieval Castle Keep on the 5th October 2019.
This stellar partnership project saw Norwich Castle working with Sadler’s Wells National Youth Dance Company; Far From The Norm, an Olivier award-winning hip hop theatre collective; Capoeira Communities; Passion Productions; inclusive dance group In Cahoots; and Knight’s Tower Medieval Combat Group.
Working together, this partnership powerhouse supported young people’s creativity and skill development, understanding of heritage and provided an unforgettable experience.
Dancer and choreographer Sarah Lewis and fight director Keith Wallis lent their expertise to support the creation of a cohesive performance, fused from each groups’ original ideas and choreography.
Fight or Flight’s finale featured members of Sadler’s Wells’ National Youth Dance Company dancing alongside our young people, as we celebrated Norwich Castle’s historic past and heralded its impending transformation.
