Curious Tea Party – Horniman Museum and Trinity Laban

12th July 2014

The Horniman Museum and Gardens and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance have been working together on exciting projects since 2009

Trinity Laban has been part of ‘Object in Focus’, an annual programme funded by Arts Council England which aims to improve access to the Horniman Museum and Gardens’ collections. They have hosted a variety of objects from ancient musical instruments and fossils to wooden step stilts. The objects are displayed in the Laban Building and inspire a range of activity for Trinity Laban staff, students and alumni over the summer term.

Previously they have jointly produced events linking to the Horniman’s summer season, which have included pop-up performances in and around the museum and gardens, flash mobs and commissions from professional artists.

In July 2014 the Horniman staged the Curious Tea Party in partnership with Trinity Laban, as part of the Big Dance Festival. The event was an eccentric weekend of Edwardian inspired music, art and performance which brought dance into the museum like never before. A large-scale event over 2 days with 10,000 attending over the weekend.
