A dancer faces a painting in the Watts Gallery - he holds on to the wheel of his wheelchair with one hand, enabling his legs to slightly lift away from the ground. He holds the arm that is not on his wheelchair out to the picture in front of him.

Beyond The Waves

Watts Gallery, Surrey, GU3 1DQ

Site-specific dance work by Chris Pavia, created for Watts Gallery.

Whats On

Beyond the Waves is a site-specific dance work by acclaimed choreographer and dancer, Chris Pavia, exploring the sculpture of G F Watts in the collection at Watts Gallery.

The dance work was commissioned by Watts Gallery Trust in collaboration with DAiSY (Disability Arts in Surrey) and with mentoring and production support from Stopgap Dance Company. It is the result of Chris’ time spent as Artist in Residence at Watts Gallery from November 2020 to March 2021, supported by Arts Council England.

Beyond the Waves is a series of three solos choreographed by Chris in collaboration with and danced by artists from Stopgap Dance Company: Abbie Thompson, Nadenh Poan and Christian Brinklow and music composed by Andy Higgs. The solos were captured on film by Roswitha Chesher and the film work will be presented as an installation piece at Watts Gallery. Chris was supported by Tom Goodwin and Callum Graham.
